There are so many things to keep us busy, and to distract us. When we are depressed there is a pill! Or, when you need a baby sitter, there’s the t.v. (guilty!)
I was listening to my Christian music this morning and the DJ said something to the effect that times were so different from grandpa’s day. “They were happy to play with a dirty potato for a toy.” His comment was a little snarky and sarcastic, but true.
He’s right! A potato, or kids going outside to play is rare. With the birth of the computer age, Xbox; now cell phones that have everything at your finger tips- is the way kids now not only communicate, but “play!”
(In my generation) We used to play outside till the streetlights went on. We rode our bikes everywhere. We walked to the park, and actually had fun with our friends!
I was a baby sitter who made 50 cents an hour. I earned my first bike that way. It seemed like I would never get that debt paid. I wanted, no needed that bike!
We didn’t have computers, nor cell phones. I took typing in school on a typewriter!
Okay, I am aging myself, I am a dinosaur I know! How funny times change our life’s “games!”
Apostle Paul said this: Phillippians 4:11-13 Be content! in whatever circumstance!
If it’s playing with a potato? okay!
No matter the circumstance, even if it’s a humble means…it’s okay. Rich or poor, hungry or full, in abundance or in need I have learned… he said.
What did he learn, and what did he teach us?
that: I can
I can do
I can do all
I can do all things
I can do all things through
I can do all things through Christ
who strengthens me!
Through Christ Jesus we have contentment! I love the scripture that says: We have rest on every side. We have peace, from the Prince of Peace himself! I love simple!
God loves the simple! The wise (ones too full of themselves) see too much into the “potato” of what the potato wasn’t.
The simple see the joy of the game of contentment no matter the circumstance!
You see, the potato wasn’t a ball, a bike, a computer etc. Nothing that could keep interest for that particular moment in time.
But contentment says: Hot potato? Hey! No problem! Potato baseball? Cool! Potato salad? Yumm!!
This is a silly message, I know, but we get too caught in “things!”
God wants us “caught up” in HIM!
Jesus, thank you for this message. Help us to be content in You. Help us not to get to caught up in the things of the world and forget to remember who our Father is. Help us when we look back or, even look forward to laugh, be happy and content in the provider of our happiness! You are our joy! Let us never forget, our joy, contentment, rest, peace, and happiness come from You, our creator.
We love you Lord.
In Jesus name, Amen.
Be blessed today!
Remember, contentment is in the heart! If you don’t have it, go to your Father in heaven. Talk to Him today. He knows your heart, and what is going on in your life.
Be honest with Him when you pray. Don’t forget to thank Him when you finish your prayer. And if you want your prayer answered, don’t forget to ask Him to forgive any sin in your life. Be pure before your Father. Get caught up in Him! Let Him be the driver, and take control. Believe me, from experience I can say: I am content, and satisfied with my Abba. He is a good God to me. I am lost without Him. I will never let go of His hand. He stabilizes me. I can go to Him about anything- I am honest with Him about everything. And He honors my prayers, because He loves me!
And because He is no respecter of persons, He can and will do the same for you.
Be blessed in Jesus, and have a great day today! Thanks for reading :-)
